Etsy regulatory operating fee: the 2026 rates
On top of the 6.5% transaction fee and payment processing, Etsy charges shops in some countries a regulatory operating fee. It changed on 22 June 2026, and for French and Italian shops it more than doubled.

US shops don't pay it. Etsy sets the rates by country and reviews them each year.
What it's charged on
The whole order total: item price, shipping, personalisation and gift wrap. It appears as a separate line in your Payment account after each sale, and VAT is added where it applies.
Why it matters more on US orders
Since Etsy's DDP rule, many shops raise their US prices to cover the duty they prepay. Every percentage fee, this one included, is then charged on the higher US price. For a French shop, Etsy's fees on a sale are now about 6.5% + payment processing + 1.14%.
Example: a UK shop sells a £40 item with £8 shipping. The fee is 0.48% of £48, about 23p. Small per order, but on £20,000 of yearly sales it's around £96, and it's on top of everything else.
How to cover it
- Include it in your fee percentage when you work out prices. Our free US price checker now adds 0.48% for UK shops, 0.50% for Canadian shops and 0.05% for Indian shops automatically, and the Etsy fee calculator shows it line by line.
- EU shops: the rate depends on your country, so add it to your own fee assumptions (France 1.14%, Italy 0.80%, Spain 0.88%, Hungary 1.97%).
- Don't forget shipping. Because the fee is charged on shipping too, free-shipping prices need to cover it as well.
