Etsy DDP labels explained
Since 9 July 2026, US orders from shops outside the US keep Etsy Purchase Protection only if they're shipped delivered duty paid (DDP): you prepay the US duty and import fees when you buy the label, so the buyer pays nothing on delivery.

Work out my US prices freeDDP in one paragraph
With a normal international label (delivered duty unpaid), the US carrier asks the buyer to pay the duty plus a collection fee before handing over the parcel. Many buyers refuse, and Etsy can now refund them and charge those amounts back to you. With a DDP label, the duty is worked out from the customs details you enter and paid when the label is bought. You pay more per US parcel, and the buyer gets a parcel with no surprise bill.
Which labels do DDP
- UK shops: Royal Mail International Tracked DDP (3 to 7 business days) can be bought through Etsy. Add the United States as a separate location in your delivery profile and choose this service. Etsy adds no fee on top of its normal transaction fees, and no VAT is charged on Royal Mail postage bought through Etsy.
- Shops elsewhere: Etsy names UPS and FedEx as DDP options. What appears in your Shop Manager depends on your country and the carriers Etsy supports there.
- Canadian shops: Etsy stopped selling Canada Post labels for US parcels on 25 August 2025 and said it would bring options back as carriers support DDP. Check which US labels you're offered now before quoting delivery times.
What you need for every US label
- An accurate item description and tariff (HS) code. The duty is worked out from these. Etsy's US tariffs estimator in the listing form suggests codes, but Etsy says its estimates aren't guaranteed.
- The country where the item was made, not where you ship from. It decides the extra US tariff (10% for UK goods, 12.5% for Australian and NZ goods, and so on).
- The value the buyer paid.
If no DDP label exists for your route
Etsy allows an exception only where DDP isn't available. You must:
- say in the listing that duties are due on delivery,
- get the buyer to agree to the estimated amount before you ship, and
- keep proof of that message.
Covering the cost
The prepaid duty comes out of your money, so build it into what US buyers pay. The cleanest way is US-specific pricing, which raises prices for US buyers only. Our free checker works out the US price that keeps your profit the same, including the duty, Etsy's fees and any DDP handling charge.
