# US customs duty on gold and silver jewellery

If you sell jewellery to US buyers on Etsy or your own store, the duty on each parcel is two parts: the normal US rate for the type of jewellery, and the extra 2026 tariff for the country where it was made. Here are both, and the total for the main seller countries.

## Normal US rates

| Jewellery | HTS code | Normal rate |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Gold (or platinum) jewellery | 7113.19.50 | 5.5% |
| Gold rope chain | 7113.19.21 | 7% |
| Gold mixed-link chain | 7113.19.25 | 5% |
| Sterling silver jewellery | 7113.11.50 | 5% |
| Fashion jewellery (base metal, plated, beaded) | 7117.19.90 | 11% |

Chains and some silver items have their own codes and rates. Confirm your exact code at [hts.usitc.gov](https://hts.usitc.gov/) or with a customs broker.

## Total duty by country of origin

| Made in | Gold | Silver | Fashion |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| India, UK, Canada* | 15.5% | 15% | 21% |
| EU | 10% | 10% | 11% |
| Japan, South Korea | 12.5% | 12.5% | 12.5% |
| Australia, NZ, China, Thailand | 18% | 17.5% | 23.5% |

The extra tariffs are the Section 301 rates in force since 24 July 2026: +10% for India, the UK and Canada; +12.5% for Australia, New Zealand, China and Thailand; and a minimum total of 10% for the EU and 12.5% for Japan and South Korea. Australian goods claimed under the US–Australia FTA skip the normal rate but still pay 12.5%, and *Canadian goods with a valid CUSMA claim pay neither. Duty is charged on the price the US buyer pays.

## Where it was made, not where you ship from

The rate follows the country where the jewellery was made. A UK shop selling silver rings made in Thailand pays the Thai rate. If you assemble pieces from imported findings, origin can depend on how much work you do; ask a broker if you're unsure.

On Etsy, non-US shops now prepay this duty with a DDP label. Our free checker works out the US price for each listing, including Etsy's fees on the higher price.
