Tariff refunds for shoppers · checked 2 November 2026

# Can shoppers get tariff refunds from Costco, Amazon, Sony or Nintendo?

US Customs had paid back about $126 billion in IEEPA tariffs and interest by early October, after the Supreme Court struck them down. That money goes to the companies that imported the goods, not to the people who bought them. Here's what each big name has said, and the one case where you can claim money yourself.

## What the companies have said

- **Amazon:** said it received about $600 million and will automatically refund customers in "a limited set of circumstances" where it passed import charges on. You don't need to apply; Amazon says it will contact the people affected. [More on Amazon's refund](https://importdutycalc.com/amazon-tariff-refund).
- **Costco:** said on its fiscal fourth-quarter earnings call (late September 2026) that it had received $184 million in tariff refunds, and that it is using the money to cut prices on a number of items rather than paying members back. No cash refund, check or claim form has been announced. A member class action filed in March 2026 is still open, and Costco has asked the court to dismiss it.
- **Walmart:** expects about $2.4 billion and says it will "invest in price". No rebates have been announced.
- **Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft:** are keeping their refunds. All three face class actions from console buyers and have asked the courts to dismiss them, arguing buyers got what they paid for.
- **Five Below:** faces a similar class action filed in July.

None of these cases had been decided when we checked. If one settles, the official settlement notice will explain how to claim. Only use the website it names.

## When you can claim yourself: you paid the duty on a parcel

If a courier such as UPS, FedEx or DHL charged you import duty before delivering a parcel from abroad, that duty may be refundable:

- **UPS and FedEx** have said they will pass refunds back to whoever paid the duty once Customs pays them.
- If your own name was on the customs entry, you may need to claim yourself. [UPS, FedEx and DHL tariff refunds](https://importdutycalc.com/ups-fedex-dhl-tariff-refund).
- Keep the duty invoice or receipt from the courier. It's your proof.

## Sold goods into the US yourself?

If you were the importer, for example an overseas Etsy or Shopify seller shipping in your own name, check which refund route and deadline applies to each entry.
