# US import duty for Mexican Etsy sellers

Every parcel you send to a US buyer now pays US duty, whatever its value, and Etsy makes you prepay it. For goods made in Mexico, the big question is whether you can claim USMCA (T-MEC). The US price checker now has both options.

## Two cases

- **USMCA claimed:** goods that qualify as Mexican under the agreement, with the claim made on the shipment, pay ** no normal duty and no extra 10%**.
- **No USMCA claim:** the normal US rate ** plus 10%** under the Section 301 tariffs in force since 24 July 2026.

Handmade goods made in Mexico from Mexican materials often qualify, but goods made mostly from imported parts may not. Steel, aluminium and copper items fall under separate Section 232 tariffs instead.

## Total duty without a USMCA claim

| Item | Normal rate | Total |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Art prints, candles | 0% | 10% |
| Silver jewellery | 5% | 15% |
| Ceramic mugs | 9.8% | 19.8% |
| Cotton T-shirts | 16.5% | 26.5% |

Normal rates are starting estimates from the US tariff schedule. Confirm your exact code at [hts.usitc.gov](https://hts.usitc.gov/). With a valid USMCA claim, all of these are 0%.

## Making the USMCA claim

- Check the product meets the USMCA rules of origin for its tariff code. For goods made entirely in Mexico from Mexican materials, that's usually straightforward.
- Prepare a certification of origin with the required data (no set form). Your carrier or customs broker can tell you how they want it.
- Make sure the claim travels with the shipment and your DDP label is set up to use it. If it isn't claimed at entry, the 10% applies.

## How to set US prices

Open the checker, choose **Mexico** or ** Mexico, USMCA claimed**, enter your price in MXN, and set the result as your US-specific price on Etsy.
