# Amazon's $600 million tariff refund: will you get money back?

Probably not, for most orders. Amazon says it received about $600 million in tariff refunds after the Supreme Court struck down the IEEPA tariffs, but it was not the importer for most items it sold. Only customers who were directly charged import costs in "a limited set of circumstances" will be refunded, and Amazon says it will contact them and pay automatically.

## What Amazon has said

- **The money:** about $600 million received from the US government, announced by CFO Brian Olsavsky on Amazon's earnings call (reported 1 August 2026).
- **Who gets some:** customers who were passed specific import charges. Amazon says it "largely absorbed" tariff costs otherwise.
- **How:** "When we receive those refunds, we will proactively contact affected customers and automatically issue refunds to them." There's no claim form.
- **The rest** goes towards lower prices, Amazon says.
- **Not announced:** which orders qualify, how much, and when.

## What you can do

- **Don't pay anyone who offers to claim it for you**, and treat "tariff refund" emails with links as suspect. Check your Amazon account and messages directly.
- **Look at your past orders** for a separate import or tariff charge. That's the kind of charge Amazon says it will refund.
- **Bought from a third-party seller?** Amazon wasn't the importer, so any refund would come from whoever imported the goods. A customer class action against Amazon is also pending; nothing has been decided.

## Are you a seller who paid the duty yourself?

If you were the importer of record on shipments that paid IEEPA tariffs, the refund is yours to claim from US Customs, not Amazon's. That's where the real money is for small sellers.
